DOCA Miami x Istituto Marangoni Miami: An Evening of Design, Fashion and Cuisine in the Design District
For one evening this October, Istituto Marangoni Miami students bring their work to DOCA in the Miami Design District. Interior Design students will present original objects of art highlighting materials supplied by DOCA and Neolith, Fashion Design students will showcase garments through informal modeling. The confluence of designed pieces from the two programs will be presented to exclusive professionals. Guests will enjoy hors d’ oeuvres prepared by SubZero chef. The evening is open to the community.
About DOCA. DOCA associated with Kuche + Cusina in New Jersey brings in a new level of design, precision and execution to South Florida. Its Design District showroom in Miami will present the state-of-the-art European manufacturing quality offering endless possibilities. Learn more at https://docamiami.com/.
The concept. Working with unique materials provided by DOCA and Neolith, Interior Design students were challenged to reinterpret and fabricate them into objects of art such as table top accessories, functional objects for the home and sculptural pieces. Several faculty members directed the thematic stories of the students’ design execution.
Two programs, one evening. The collaboration is a joint collaboration of Interior Design and Fashion Design programs showing the layers of creative excellence at the school: five student garments will be worn by IMM students who model informally throughout the space, so guests see fashion and objects in conversation. Interior Design students stepped up to the challenge in working with multiple partner’s materials and present finished works to a public audience in the heart of the Miami Design District.
Who is involved. Participating students come from BFA Interior Design program and Fashion Design programs and levels, under the direction of Dr. Thelma Lazo-Flores, Dean of Design Programs, and Mario Braghieri, Dean of Fashion Programs, with Amy Berkowitz, Program Leader, Competitions and Contests. About 25 students contributed to the entire body of work.
The experience. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the emerging student designers, enjoy cuisine from the guest chef of SubZero. Works will be on view at Istituto Marangoni Miami after the show.
